She first rose to prominence as the driving force behind Massachusetts’ Domestic Worker Bill of Rights, earning honorable mention in The Boston Globe’s 2015 Bostonian of the Year for her leadership. A proud card-carrying member of the United Auto Workers with a legal background rooted in labor rights, Lydia is committed to expanding opportunities and protections for every worker in Massachusetts. How Lydia Has Delivered

Protecting Gig Workers & Union Rights (S.627/H.1158)

  • Lydia co-authored legislation to shield app-based workers from misclassification, affirm their collective bargaining rights, and secure minimum wage, benefits, and workplace protections. The bill earned unanimous endorsements from labor unions across the Commonwealth.

Defending Employee Free Speech (S.1078)

  • As lead sponsor, Lydia introduced a bill safeguarding workers’ First Amendment rights in the workplace—preventing employers from punishing staff for refusing to engage in political or religious speech that conflicts with their beliefs.

Remote Worker Rights (S.1308 / SD1179)

  • She sponsored legislation ensuring Massachusetts labor protections extend to remote workers, guaranteeing they remain covered by the state's wage, safety, and benefits laws—no matter where they perform their duties.

Apprenticeships & Workforce Training (S.1163)

  • Lydia co-sponsored a bill to expand apprenticeship programs and vocational training statewide, empowering more residents to gain the skills needed for high-demand, well-paying careers.
